Across the World

This blog, formerly Across the US in Two Weeks, has become Across the World. It was renamed because of planning for an upcoming trip this summer. It'll be expensive, a lot of driving, and probably require an additional person, but I'm saving to do it.

This is a call out: If anyone wants to do a shit load of driving and possibly not return, leave a comment here. My next trip is going to be a bit more than this last one... (7500 miles wasn't enough)

Yes, I'm back.

I have yet to post to this blog since I've been back. I'm not completely sure why, except to say I've been both busy and lazy. I have, however, done some work to it (whether you notice or not). As Blogger grows, it's been an uphill battle keeping their
"stuff" off my site. But I've succeeded again.

'Nuff said?

Naw... I'm here. I made it to California and spent last night (and tonight) here near Loma Linda/San Bernadino. Good times. It's really hot. When I entered CA, it was 110. Further in the state, however, it's only in the 90s, which isn't too bad. I can at least breathe.

Tomorrow I'm heading up to the Sacramento/San Francisco area. I'm staying in Sacramento (hopefully), but plan to visit Jacqueline in Fairfield... If I can get a hold of her (or Kurt) at least. Pictures will be uploaded later, when I have a more reliable internet source (no caps on internet now, btw).

Home is soon... too soon.

Another Quick One

I'm in New Mexico now.

Yep, I did the entire state of Texas (minus about 150 miles) in one day. It's pretty intimidating to see 880 on the mile marker when you enter a state. But I did it. I slept for 8 hours last night too. I'm driving another couple of hours than stopping. It looks like I might be in LA by tomorrow night, actually. That'd be excellent.

It's pouring rain. Lots of lightning as well. Everyone on the road was slowing down while I sped by. So I thought I'd stop for a bit and steal some internet from a Holiday Inn Express while things calm down.

I'm off! Have a good day, anyone who actually reads this.

Quick Update

I don't have time to say much, suffice to say I made it to Michigan, stayed a day, went through Indiana, then Kentucky, then Tennessee, then part of Georgia, then Alabama, and safely made it to Panama City Beach, FL. I stayed here a night and partied away at the largest club in the US. ;) Good times. I'm leaving today for California.

Man, having dial up internet really sucks. But it's nice to sleep in a decent bed for two nights in a row. I'll be in Chicago tomorrow and then hopefully to Michigan by the evening. Those of you in Chicago and MI, see you soon! Also, those in Tennessee, see you Friday evening! ;)

As a test: One of the seven pictures I just posted was edited beyond the capabilities of iPhoto (i.e. something was changed). Which one? To give you a hint, I'll tell you that I "erased" something from the picture (whichever one it is). $5 to whomever guesses correctly first and on the first go.

The most beautiful sunset I've seen thus far on my trip (two days) was here in North Dakota. Of the few pictures that came out, this one, of birds just beneath the horizon, is by far my favorite.

Almost on My Way

While I’m still deciding on my complete plan of action for this trip, I’ve got my basic route mapped out.

On Sunday, I’ll leave Seattle at an unspecified time and head on I-90 towards Fargo. Hopefully, I’ll be there by Monday night or Tuesday morning/afternoon. I plan to spend a day there and leave for Chicago on Wednesday morning. After this, things get a bit sketchy. At the least, I have to see my grandma in Chicago before heading on to Michigan, but I’m not sure how long that meeting will take. It very well may be that I spend Wednesday night in Chicago instead of Michigan.

On Friday morning, I need to head out from Michigan to make it to Chattanooga, TN by that evening. It’s an easy trip and I’ve successfully completed it several times, so I’m hardly worried about making the deadline. Saturday I’ll head out to Panama City Beach, FL. Depending on how things go, I should be there by Saturday night and I’ll spend the night enjoying the Florida weather.

It’ll take three days to get to LA, but I’m now quite sure I need to make the trip. This puts me at the end of Tuesday or beginning of Wednesday. I have friend with whom I can stay with while in California. I’ll probably spend some time in LA and then up in Sacramento or San Francisco. I plan to head home from California on Saturday and hope to be home Sunday morning or afternoon.

Granted, all of this is tentative and could definitely change, but this is the basic layout of my plans.

In total, MapQuest pegs me at 6,480.35 miles. A nice long trip for two weeks...
